Amazing FFH
April Where to start with our FFH this past week?
A crew of triathlete FFH went to South Beach and participated in the South Beach Triathlon. Debbie Guild placed 3rd in her age group, Bill Demchak placed 2nd in his, Chip Burke PRed, Dave Rogers and Jim Meyers (both of whom have been battling and recovering from injuries) were really happy with their times as well! Congrats-- their hard work and dedication rubs off on the rest of us, even if we don't channel it onto a bike or a run-- it is inspiring. Jonas Altman-Kurosaki traveled to Chicago for the Illinois States meet--held in Munster, IN where he got second in his age group in the 1000 free-- a best USMS time since 2013. He swam Masters bests in the 50 breast, 200 fly and 200 back and finally got back under a minute in the 100 IM after 5 years. (This was motivated much by trash talk from Ron!) And as Jonas stated "Most importantly, felt great wearing the tech suit my fiancee got me for Christmas, my first time wearing one since college!" At the same time, with much less snow, our Coach Andy Kraus traveled to Fairfax, VA to swim in Colonies SCY Championships. He got almost all best times placing between 7th and 15th in his age group--- Andy and Jonas both plan to travel to USMS Nationals in Indy in a few weeks. Finally our Katie Stutz, Ron Morosky and Donna Morosky are in Ft. Lauderdale this weekend at YMCA Masters Nationals. Katie WON the 400 IM in her age group! Katie's words," I honestly think I have Matt’s Monday night kick set to credit, because I was able to swim the strongest breaststroke leg I have in a few years. I also PRed by 5 sec overall (although I might also have to credit the 400 IM torture session I endured at Shadyside last Friday). Regardless please thank Matt for me!"
And out of the pool, a team of swimming readers won the first Adult Battle of the Books competition. Katie Kenyon, Cory Siri, Libby Ernharth, Susan Buchmans and Margaret Haas (FCKW board and swimming kid mom). For those of you looking for competitions that don't involve flip-turns-- this is an option. They competed against 30 teams from local libraries around Pittsburgh! The trophy came to practice and Matt got to hold onto it for an hour. We suspect he has started training for next year, it is a big trophy.
