Flooding in Western PA: Flying Fish Head's Summer Pool Flooded
As many of you know--- our little area was hit hard by two storms this week and the creek adjacent to the Fox Chapel Racquet Club flooded July 2 and July 4, 2018. https://www.wpxi.com/news/top-stories/pool-turned-into-debris-filled-swamp-as-flooding-hits-fox-chapel-club/782198713
By Wednesday, July 4th (pre flood 2) we had over 100 volunteers from the local membership and community and this included FFH; shoveling and carrying dirt, moving furniture -- and it looked like a pool again. Until the second flood that night. With that flood not only did the rain and creek assume that our summer home was a part of its natural watershed, but the trees above the pool that took down the power lines caused a transformer to crash to the ground, and explode. And with that--- there were singed wires and reportedly the exit signs at the club all flew off of the wall.
The FFH have been gifted offers from local clubs all over the area and we began our tour de pools 2018. Last
Friday we swam at Longue Vue Swim Club--- a gorgeous pool that kicks the yardage up a bit (29 or 30s). Tomorrow we will go back inside to the FCHS M-W-F 6-7:15ish am (one week where am thunder simply will not matter). Chapel Gate, and FCGC have also offered to help us, as has the Thelma YMCA. And Community Swim Club has allowed us to swim both practices in their pool on the weekends. Thank you to all of our community pools.
But more thanks to our FFH-- Saturday we shared a practice and got to watch Coach Matt and Ron's son, Garrett, shoot some hoops. Then showed up again yesterday for a long work day at the FCRC--it really again looks like a pool. Some FFH brought donations for the flood clean up effort in the community and others delivered pizzas to the workers. Thank you all. You really are an amazing team-- it isn't just the swimming.
